FillCo Patio Project: A Vision of Industrial Chic and Modern Comfort—Unrealized Due to 2020’s Unprecedented Challenges

The FillCo Patio Project, conceptualized as a sweeping transformation to introduce an invigorating life into an outdoor space, represents a poignant narrative of ambition and adaptation in the face of the unforeseen. Though meticulously planned by DorianBahr to blend functionality with aesthetic elegance, this project stands as a testament to the ambitions halted by the global onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Below is an overview of what was envisioned—a showcase of resilience in design, despite its unrealized status.

Design & Aesthetic Promises:

  • Exterior Wall Finishing: Plans for the patio included walls painted with exterior-grade latex in a compelling black hue, setting a bold foundation against the backdrop of brighter and dynamic elements.
  • Flooring: Gray quarry tiles were selected for their robustness and sleek appeal, aiming to offer a stylized yet practical flooring solution that would withstand both daily use and festive gatherings.
  • Bar Area: The design featured a prominent white concrete bar, enhanced by a glass garage door to merge indoor comfort with the allure of open-air settings. Behind the bar, black veneer brick was to add depth and shine, making for an eye-catching focal point.
  • Wall Tile: A strategic placement of blue rectangle tiles above the bar was to bring a pop of color, creating a warm and inviting feel amidst the industrial chic surroundings.

Intended Construction & Installation Services:

  • Mechanical & HVAC: The plan included integrating owner-supplied HVAC units, complemented by exposed metal ductwork and large round diffusers, designed to ensure well-distributed airflow throughout the space.
  • Electrical & Fixtures: Electrical modifications were to be implemented to achieve code compliance, alongside the installation of various lighting fixtures—provided by the owner but beautifully arranged to illuminate the patio in an inviting glow.
  • Plumbing & Restrooms: A key feature was the construction of an ADA-compliant restroom, with plumbing fixtures ready to be installed, marking a commitment to accessibility and convenience.
  • Sprinklers: Adaptations to the sprinkler system were meticulously planned, aiming for full code compliance and enhanced safety measures across the patio area.
  • General Construction: The blueprint included the innovative inclusion of two roll-up doors, creating an open-air ambiance without a traditional man door, optimizing space and adhering to regulations. Concrete floors were to be cleaned and sealed, with a palette chosen by the owner/designer to unify the space’s aesthetic. Additionally, all surfaces—from drywall and paint to ceilings and insulation—were to be treated with precision to ensure a polished and cohesive look.

The FillCo Patio Project, though never brought to fruition due to the disruptions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, remains a poignant illustration of the creativity and forward-thinking that characterizes DorianBahr’s approach to design.
